About Lawrence Summers

Mr. Summers served as Treasury secretary under President Clinton from 1999 to 2001, after six years in the department and two years as chief economist of the World Bank. After leaving Treasury in 2001, he was president of Harvard University until 2006, departing amid controversy. He advised Obama on economic matters during the campaign.
