Commissioner Katy Sorenson, representing District 8 since 1994, has been an outspoken advocate for her community and all of Miami-Dade County. Commissioner Sorenson has worked diligently to enhance the quality of life for South Miami-Dade through wise economic and growth management policies, crime prevention initiatives, and protection of the region’s environmental resources. She has also been a staunch advocate for human rights, a champion of regional cooperation, a leader in child welfare issues, and a promoter of the arts.

Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners Installation Ceremony - The installation of Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez, Chairman Bruno A. Barreiro and Members of the Board of County Commissioners took place at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County.

Commissioner Sorenson wins approval to dedicate "Charlie Burr Park" in South Miami-Dade - On November 20, Commissioner Katy Sorenson won approval by the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners for a resolution she sponsored naming Rock Pit No. 77, located at 20150 SW 127 Avenue, as “Charles Burr Park” to honor one of the county’s agricultural pioneers.

New Curbside Recycling Program Coming Soon! - Miami-Dade County has launched a new recycling program. The transition process will take several months, in the meantime please continue to use the current recycling system, until you receive the new information package and recycling cart.

Miami-Dade County Residents will Begin to Receive New Recycling Carts for their New Single Stream Recycling Program - (Miami-Dade County, FL) -- On June 23, 2008, the Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management will begin distribution of new 65-gallon recycling carts to residents that receive residential garbage collection service from the County. View the Video Click Here.

Miami-Dade Cutler Ridge Police Station changes name to South District Station - In a resolution passed Tuesday, October 7 by the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners, the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Cutler Ridge District Station has changed its name to the South District Station.

Commissioner Sorenson appointed Co-Chair of Florida Association of Counties Urban Caucus - President of the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) and Suwannee County Commissioner Randy Hatch has announced that Miami-Dade County Commissioner Katy Sorenson will serve as Co-Chair with Broward County Commissioner Kristin Jacobs for FAC’s Urban Caucus.
