Since becoming elected, I have worked tirelessly to set the wheels into motion to help you reclaim and transform our long neglected neighborhoods into the best place to live, work and play. This is my mission…our mission. Accountability and accessibility are the heart of my administration.
I envision District 5 as vibrant communities with small and big business prosperity, residents working and in affordable homes of their own.

. - July 1, 2008 - City of Miami Commissioner Michelle Spence Jones, District 5, joined by city administrators and area neighbors held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of yet another Capital Improvements project, Model City/Floral Park Street Improvements, Phase II, on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, 10:30am, at the intersection of NW 55 Street and NW 18th Avenue.
- June 12, 2008 - June 1st marks the beginning of the Hurricane Season and forecasters are predicting an active 2008 season. While most South Florida residents are well educated and informed on Hurricane preparedness, some of our most vulnerable residents like senior citizens are left wondering what to do in the event of a hurricane.
- June 12, 2008 - The Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) and the City of Miami came to the rescue of the mostly elderly residents living in a building in need of structural repairs, a new roof, bathrooms, kitchens, and air conditioning.
- May 7, 2008 - The City of Miami celebrated the grand opening of the Little Haiti Soccer Park on Saturday, May 3, 2008. To kick off the celebration, City of Miami Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones joined Mayor Manny Diaz and other elected officials from the: City of Miami, Miami Dade County, North Miami, North Miami Beach and members of the Little Haiti community in a day long celebration.
- May 1, 2008 - City of Miami Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones, joined by Mayor of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Jean Yves Jason and other elected officials from the City of Miami, Miami Dade County, North Miami, North Miami Beach and members of the Little Haiti community officially kicked-off Haitian Heritage Month with a press conference for the grand opening of the Little Haiti Soccer Park and the pre-opening of the Little Haiti Cultural Complex..
- April 8, 2008 - City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, District 5 Commissioner Michelle Spence Jones, and Commission Chairman Joe Sanchez joined Spring Garden area neighbors today for a ribbon cutting ceremony to inaugurate the re-opening of the Spring Garden Bridge, located at NW 7th Street and NW 7th Street Road
- November 29, 2007 - City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz and Commissioner Michelle Spence Jones, District 5 joined members of the Community Redevelopment Agency, area business owners, neighbors and city administrators to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony for Overtown’s 3rd Avenue Business Corridor Streetscape Project.
Commissioner Spence-Jones Delivers Annual District 5 Address - November 27, 2007 - State of District 5 Address entitled Wake up Miami “It’s Time to Take Control”.
- November 5, 2007 - City of Miami Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones in partnership with the Carrie Meek Foundation and the Liberty City Community Revitalization Trust has launched a new campaign. The campaign entitled Soul Lives in the City “Experience the Soul” will focus on encouraging residents to live in areas throughout District 5 where there will be an abundance of newly developed affordable rental and homeownership units available to new and existing residents.
- October 4, 2007 - City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones, District 5, and City Manager Pedro G. Hernandez joined by representatives from Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami (Habitat) and other community representatives for the official groundbreaking of Habitat’s very first development of town homes for low-income households.
- September 12, 2007 - The Office of Commissioner Spence-Jones has partnered with P.U.L.S.E to launch the HotSpot campaign in District 5. The HotSpot campaign aims to empower residents to take back their neighborhoods by reporting illegal activities with the “HotSpot”
