Commissioner Sanchez was honored on June 5th, 1998 when he was appointed to the City of Miami District 3 Commission seat. Four months later he made history in the City of Miami as the first official to ever run unopposed. The voters of District 3 have since elected him to serve two full, four-year terms.

- December 15, 2008 - I was reading an article stating that City of Miami Commissioner Joe Sanchez was thinking about running for Mayor for the City of Miami replacing Mayor Manny Diaz at the end of his term in 2009. The question is, “Is Joe Sanchez ready to become Mayor?”, and I think not. I will explain.
. - October 10, 2008 - Commissioner Sanchez, with the help of students from Jose Marti School, Brigada 2506, Los Municipios de Cuba en el Exilio, La Junta Patriotica Cubana and other groups, planted six royal palm trees on Cuban Memorial Blvd., dedicated to each of the six Cuban provinces.
- Commissioner Sanchez, the City of Miami NET Office and the City of Miami Police Department have partnered to greatly diminish crime in Miami neighborhoods by having regular crime prevention community meetings during which citizens express their concerns to City official present. “I’m really encouraged by the amount of folks that come out to the meetings. - September 25, 2008 - Commissioner Joe Sanchez joined Mayor Manny Diaz and Coca Cola Enterprises, Inc., on September 25th, 2008 to unveil the new Coca-Cola Hybrid delivery trucks. Commissioner Sanchez is committed to innovations and initiatives that will help the environment and reduce carbon emissions. - September 25, 2008 - Although the City of Miami Fiscal Year 2009 budget was approved on September 25th, 2008, by a 4-1 vote, Commissioner Joe Sanchez , who cast the only opposing vote, stated that during these times of economic hardship, he will not support a budget that calls for an increase in fees and will be vigilant on all 2009 spending.
- June 25, 2008 - Commissioner Joe Sanchez, who chairs the Downtown Development Authority (DDA), is pleased with the current progress and the future of the Downtown Miami area. Recently, the Miami Herald published his vision of Downtown and the various initiatives and projects that have been placed into effect that will make Downtown Miami the ideal place to live, work, visit, and enjoy. . - May 8, 2008 - Miami, Fl. – City of Miami Commission Chairman Joe Sanchez, backed unanimously by the City of Miami Commission, passed a resolution urging President George W. Bush to grant temporary protected status to Haitians in the United States. Click Here for letter sent to President George Bush.
- March 17, 2008 - In order to protect pets in the City of Miami, Commissioner Joe Sanchez has urged the City of Miami to adopt a tether ban. The item will be heard by the City of Miami Commission on April 10, 2008. Click Here for the Official Tether Ban Ordinance.
- March 24, 2008 - Commissioner Sanchez believes the City of Miami Police Department’s Police Athletic League has done great work in providing at-risk youth a path away from violence and negative influences. During a recent City of Miami Commission meeting, Commissioner Sanchez directed the City of Miami Administration to create a sustainable revenue stream for the Police Athletic League.
- January 30, 2008 - Over 30 City-sponsored locations will be offering free tax preparation services as part of this year’s campaign, with services provided from January 30th through April 15th. Eligible residents who file their tax returns at these sites can learn if they qualify to receive a federal income tax refund of up to $4,700 via the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and up to an additional $1,000 per child via the Child Tax Credit (CTC).
