have established this website to expand the access to my office for constituents in District 5. Hopefully, dealing with County government can be simplified by offering a better and more efficient way of communicating.
In an attempt to continuously develop and improve this site, new features have been created recently with more planned for the near future. These additions were created to provide you with more information about the district, my office, and enhance your ability to communicate with us. - The installation of Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez, Chairman Bruno A. Barreiro and Members of the Board of County Commissioners took place at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County.
- Commissioner Barreiro has worked closely with Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen, the State of Florida, South Florida Water Management District, Florida Inland Navigational District, and the City of Miami to secure approximately $33 million for the maintenance dredging and environmental clean-up along the Miami River's federal navigable channel.
- Teach For America is the national corps of outstanding recent college graduates of all academic majors who commit two years to teach in underserved urban and rural public schools.
- In celebration of its 110th anniversary, Miami-Dade Board of County Commission Chairman Bruno A. Barreiro (District 5), presented a Proclamation to George C. Bolton, president of Biscayne Engineering Company, Inc., proclaiming January 8, as Biscayne Engineering Company Day. The company opened for business in 1898 and it was incorporated in January 19, 1914.
- More than 1,000 children, from all areas of Miami-Dade, participated in a special showing of Bilibambom, an ecology show for children at the Roxy Theater. The interactive show included the children's participation as they laughed and danced assisting the Chiquilinas forming a protective team to save the Planet Earth.
Commissioner Barreiro,Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Miami Beach Mayor Matti Herrera Bower inspect eroded beach areas in Miami Beach - Chairman Barreiro has been working closely with Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen who has requested a federal appropriation of $7.5 million dollars for a County wide beach erosion control project. Together, they have hosted several meetings between members of the South Florida Congressional Delegation, Miami-Dade County and Miami Beach officials and the US Army Corps of Engineers to discuss beach re-nourishment.
